Beauty in Stillness tee

Clyfford Still is one of the first great abstract expressionist. Known for establishing his imaginative style while Rothko and Pollock were still studying figurative works. Still was incredibly selective on how his work was viewed by the public, he preferred that his work was seen together so that the collective energy of the pieces could be experienced.

“Still's overriding theme is the existential struggle of the human spirit against the forces of nature, a notion that finds expression in the vertical forms that reach defiantly through the majority of his compositions, and a struggle he evoked in his phrase, ‘the vertical necessity of life.’"

This is somewhat of a second addition to a series I’m exploring. Similar to the Joan’s Outside tee, Joan Mitchell and Clyfford Still share space in SFMoMa. I always look forward to sitting with Clyfford’s work as they seem to swallow you, they’re vast and feel as if they stretch miles into the canvas. You can get lost in his usage of color, it’s an absolute honor to get to sit with them.

The back is a six color print, honoring one of my favorite blue paintings of his. I love his blue works as he’s able to capture so much depth within the color.

The front is an image of him in front of his work with a quote that I feel encompasses the mentality it takes to create work as impactful as his.

This tee is manually printed by myself, in my living room, small variations can occur, it’s character! Always with water based inks on comfort colors tees.

This is a pre order as I’ve only done the test prints so far, expect two to three weeks for delivery confirmation.
